On Country/In Residence
Place-responsive artists Gretel Taylor, Laki Sideris, Gulsen Ozer, Tammy Wong Hulbert, Jill Orr, Mandy Nicholson, Jill Orr, Aarti Jadu and Rebecca Murray plan to walk 'ngurrak barring', a new public art and cultural trail across the Dandenong Ranges/Corhanwarrabul in October 2024. Over the 3-day 40km walk, artists will share their practices and approaches to place, as a mobile, immersive professional development. One aim is to consider what it means to 'listen to Country' through our diverse perspectives. Artists will develop responses for a subsequent multi-arts exhibition that reflects our experiences of walking together.

ngurrak barring
Occurring across 39 kilometres of walking track, ngurrak barring (RidgeWalk) leads through forests of towering mountain ash and rich understoreys, passes through townships and emerges to panoramic views. Art and interpretive content is currently being installed along the track, recognising Wurundjeri cultural heritage as well as the history of art in the Hills. We are grateful to be the inaugural artists in residence for ngurrak barring.
